Open/Close...

This is a section of the Institu du Monde Arabe (Institute os the Arab World). The small circle like details that we see within the windows are actually not only decorative but utilitarian. They are a mechanized windows that open or close to manipulate the amount of sun into the building. Pretty cool!

It was designed by John Nouvel, he was also the designer for the Cartier Foundation which houses contemporary works of art and the Musee de quai Branly. The interesting part is that out of these three buildings this one is the oldest and to me it seems contemporary because of its technology.
